At HB Seals we have over 60 years of experience in producing and supplying seals for many industry types and we ensure top-quality products at an affordable price point.
Static seals can either seal radially on the inside and outside diameters of the seal or axially on the sidewalls of the seal, with the latter commonly referred to as a face seal.
We know how important it is to create a tight seal, to prevent leaks by forming a barrier between the two components that prevents fluids and gases from passing through. Therefore, we have a wide variety for you to choose from, so you can find static seals that fit ideally to your equipment.
If you are looking for seals where both the seal and the mating hardware do not move relative to one another in the application being sealed, O-rings are the most common option.
Sealing solutions from HB Seals, including rubber O-rings, silicone O-rings, and metal O-rings, are found in different machinery types where they are used to ensure the proper functioning of various systems. We have small O-rings, large O-rings, and everything in between.
Backup rings or anti-extrusion rings are, as their name suggests, not sealing devices but purely a device to provide 'backup' protection and support to sealing elements, typically O-rings.
Backup rings are generally manufactured from extrusion resistant materials which are normally harder than the seal they are protecting. They are positioned between the sealing device and the clearance/extrusion gap in a sealing application to provide protection from extrusion under pressure and to prevent possible seal damage.
Under some circumstances, the pressure rating, temperature resistance, and life expectancy of a sealing element can be vastly increased using the correct choice of backup ring design, material, and size. HB Seals has all backup ring dimensions and our team is ready to help you find the backup ring you need.
Among the selection of static seals at HB Seals, you will also find flat gaskets.
One of the key features of flat gaskets is their ability to conform to the surface they are sealing. This helps ensure a tight and secure seal, even on difficult or uneven surfaces. Our top-quality flat face gaskets can also be used in high-temperature and pressure environments without failing or leaking.
Flat ring gaskets are available in a variety of dimensions, so they can be custom fit for any application.
HB Seals is a supplier of Tri-Clamp seals that can accommodate your unique requirements.
There are many suitable applications for Tri-Clamp gaskets, including industrial and foodservice equipment, as well as scientific equipment where a static seal is needed.
HB Seals has a wide range of static seal types and anti-extrusion / backup ring profiles in a number of our high-performance materials to work in the most arduous applications. Whether it be high pressures, high or low temperatures, aggressive chemicals, or seals that require a high degree of deflection for hardware separation, we have the right solutions.

Static seals are seals that do not move relative to each other. The term "static" refers to the fact that the seal is not designed to move. Static seals are generally used to seal non-moving parts, such as flanges.
Dynamic seals, on the other hand, are designed to allow movement between the two surfaces. Dynamic seals are used to seal moving parts, such as in an engine or gearbox.

The O-ring seal is one of the most versatile sealing products created. The design is simple yet flexible and is used to seal a wide range of liquids and gasses across many applications.
An O-ring seal is designed to have a point contact between the O-ring and sealing faces. This allows high local stress, containing high pressure, without exceeding the yield stress of the O-ring body.
HB Seals hold one of the largest ranges of O-Rings in Europe, available for immediate dispatch.
At HB Seals we supply O-rings in a wide range of materials, including:
Ranges of O-rings include British Imperial (BS1806), British Metric (BS4518), ISO3601, including German (DIN 3771), Swedish (SMS 1586/1588) and French (NFT 47 501). American (SAE AS568A, MS 29 513) and Japanese Metric (JISB 2401).
Many of our O-rings are available with various approvals including Norsok M710, FDA,3A, WRC, WRAS, UL, DVGW, KTW, BGVV, KIWA, USP, NSF/ANSI, EN549, EN681-1 and EN682.
All approvals can be provided with full certification.
See our Compliance Documents & Technical Data Sheets page for further information.
A successful O-ring joint requires a specific mechanical design that applies a predictable deformation to the O-ring. This introduces a calculated mechanical stress at the O-ring contacting surfaces. Providing the pressure of the fluid being contained does not exceed the contact stress of the O-ring, leaking will not occur.
Because of the incompressible elastomeric nature of the O-ring, an increase of the fluid pressure will result in a reaction force with a proportionate increase of the contact stress. This is the reason an O-ring can seal very high pressures as long as extrusion through the mating parts is prevented by the correct mechanical design.
The O-ring is designed to have a point contact to the contacting faces. This gives a high local stress, able to contain pressures as high as 1000bars or more, without exceeding the yield stress of the O-ring body. The flexible nature of O-ring materials allows them to work with imperfections in the contacting faces. However, surface finishes must be controlled within the recommended ranges to minimize friction and abrasion, especially on dynamic applications. The correct selection of rubber materials - often referred to as "compounds" - will ensure proper compatibility with the fluid to be sealed and the working temperature of the application.
Buy O-Ring
HB Seals' products are quality assured and we keep a huge stock ready for delivery. We respond to customers quickly and provide reliable delivery of quality O-rings and sealing products.
O-ring cords can be found in several different materials. Material selection for any application is based on chemical compatibility, application temperature, sealing pressure, lubrication requirements and durometer.
Extruded o ring cord is available by the metre in many materials and in a range of diameters from 1mm to 30mm.
O-ring cords are commonly used on non-moving machinery and static sealing applications to keep air, other gases, and liquids from passing in or out of any given area. They are especially prevalent in pneumatic and hydraulic systems. O-ring cord has a clear advantage for fitting seals to special dimensions that standard stock O-rings may not cater to.
The standard extruded cord is produced to tolerances according to the Standard ISO 3302-1.
HB Seals also offer a special premium cord with tolerances according to ISO 3601-1. This cord is used for production of our M-Quick O-rings and the end product is fully comparable to a standard moulded o-ring. The HB Seals premium cord is in compliance with FDA, 3A, USP etc. All approvals can be provided with full certification.
See our Compliance Documents & Technical Data Sheets page for further information.
Order O-rings in any dimension without expensive tool costs, high MOQ's or long lead-times with M-Quick. There are no limitations on maximum diameter that HB Seals can manufacture.
If you are at the prototype stage, or require large O-rings, M Quick is the solution for you.
You can choose between NBR, EPDM, FPM or VMQ, and all materials are available in Food grade quality for use in the food and pharmaceutical industry.
M Quick o-rings are vulcanized in-house by our experienced HB Seals team. We hold a large stock or chord materials which mean we can manufacture and dispatch within 24-hours!
We manufacture the material by step molding in a special process, and then join the ends together using a hot vulcanization process. The result is a product with barely any visible joints and with a tolerance equal to a molded O-ring acc. to ISO3601. M Quick products should not be compared to ordinary hot vulcanized O-rings made of extruded material, which has a considerably greater variation in tolerances.
At HB Seals, we are committed to helping our customers achieve success in every aspect of their business. So, contact us and let us assist you in moving forward!
Back-up rings prevent the extrusion of an elastomeric O-ring in its housing groove under certain operating conditions.
Back-up rings are typically manufactured in virgin PTFE. Other filled PTFE and Plastics are also available depending on the application. They are also available in NBR and Viton 90.
PTFE is a strong and durable material, making it ideal for back-up rings. It is also resistant to many chemicals and can withstand high temperatures. This makes PTFE back-up rings an excellent choice for use in a wide range of applications.
Spiral back-up rings enable the back-up ring to be opened with ease for fitting over a shaft, and ensures the O-ring is supported around its entire diameter. Spiral backup rings are manufactured in a coiled spiral shape.
Solid single turn back-up rings are usually endless to ensure good support. However, they can be scarf split if required.
Contoured Back-Ups are typically produced in a 90 durometer Nitrile and Viton. This provides sufficient elasticity to permit stretching over the major diameter of a piston and then snapping back into the gland groove cut into the piston. 90 durometer has sufficient hardness to resist extrusion of the softer elastomeric O-Ring performing the actual sealing function against the high-pressure liquid or gas.
The X-ring is a symmetrical four lobe seal, with a square fitting cross section.
Due to the symmetrical shape, the X-ring can withstand stresses from multiple directions. An increase in the pressure leads to a radial section increase and then to a progressive constraint of the seal.
The X-Ring have twice the sealing surface as an O-ring. Due to that the X-ring requires less squeeze for an effective seal function. Less squeeze means lower friction and longer sealing life.
The parting lines are between the lobes and the sealing surface a completely free from any surface faults that can cause a leakage.
The square profile prevents the X-ring from twisting and will often outperform an O-ring in rotating applications.
HB Seals offers X-Rings in standard ISO3601-1/AS568A/BS1806 sizes.

Kalrez® is a cross-linked rubber which compresses easily and seals effectively on all types of surfaces.
Unlike plastics which creep, Kalrez® maintains a tight, effective seal.
After exposure to aggressive chemicals and temperatures that cause other rubbers to swell excessively, harden or become brittle, Kalrez® parts continue to perform.
Kalrez® parts have virtually universal chemical resistance and is far more resistant to swelling, a key cause of seal failure, and to other forms of chemical attack than other elastomers.
With over a decade of field and laboratory experience, Kalrez® parts have proved their long-term resistance to more 1500 chemicals.
Chemically induced swelling can cause O-rings and sealing components made of other rubbers to expand out of retaining grooves and produce leaks. Kalrez® parts resist swelling in a wider range of chemicals than any other elastomer over a wide range of temperatures.
Long-term exposure to elevated temperatures can cause other elastomers to become hard and brittle. Kalrez® parts retain their elasticity and recovery properties even after long-term exposure to temperatures up to 327C/620F.
Because they rely on precision machined surfaces, perfect metal seals are hard to produce and prone to failure. Kalrez® parts conform to irregular metal surfaces as well as being easy to install and replace.
Kalrez® parts are the only elastomer components that match PTFE in chemical resistance. Unlike PTFE, Kalrez® parts have the elasticity and recovery properties of rubber that are vital to many sealing applications. Also, unlike PTFE, Kalrez® parts do not creep or flow and reduce shaft fretting to a minimum in dynamic use.
As an authorized Kalrez® distributor, HB Seals has the expertise to support your needs for demanding sealing applications. We have worked closely with the Du Pont Technical Development Laboratories for many years. HB Seals stock a large number of standard O-rings in Kalrez® ready for immediate delivery.
